Plantasia Greenhouse update – August 2016
Greenhouse - August 2016
What a month August has been - Great weather and a superb AutoPot Open Day weekend with the greenhouse being the star of the show. All the plot demonstrations looked amazing with a myriad of chilli pods beginning to ripen to show their true colours and all of the plants flourishing. We received great feedback from the plot sponsors and visiting guests alike and many left with arms full of fresh veg. You can find out more about the chilli plants progress and a look at some varieties in depth in the latest Chilli Update blog.
It was very pleasing that the giant onions were timed to perfection reaching their peak just before the show. They are not record breakers but they are the best we have ever grown and that gives a great feeling of pride and achievement on top of the enjoyment of nurturing them from seed and watching them grow. You can find out more about our experiences and methods for growing giant onions in AutoPot watering systems in the forthcoming article creatively titled: Giant Onion Growing with AutoPot. Over the next few months we will be posting several articles on different veg growing in the Autopot system including carrots and parsnips so look out for them too. Why not have a go yourself next year and see if you can beat our onion weight and size, grow a giant leek (we will be having a go at them next year too), try growing some carrots with your children or parsnips with a pal. Just remember not to leave it too late before you sow your seeds so plan ahead.
As the month draws to an end we are full steam ahead with picking chillies and packing them off to our various trade customers and sauce makers as well as visitors to the nursery.
